RN - Obstetrics Nights 608-01 602-48 - Nursing - OB Nights
General Summary of Responsibilities: Provides nursing care to patients according to the State Practice Act for Nursing, including the assessment of patient care status, implementing treatment plans and evaluating patient response. Demonstrates unsupervised competency in prioritizing and organizing nursing care in one nursing area. Delegates those cares as appropriate for patients to other staff members. Care is provided to patients throughout the lifespan.
The Labor and Delivery RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include:
• Assesses, plans and evaluates patient care needs including obtaining patient history and assessing for labor risk factors.
•Carries out physician orders.
•Cares for patients requiring fetal assessment/fetal monitoring.
•Manages the patient's pain including epidural and patient controlled analgesia administration management.
•Administers prescribed medications and monitors vital signs.
•Assists physician during delivery, treatment, examination and surgical procedures.
•Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care.
•Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing both paper and computerized documentation systems.
•Instructs and educates patients and families.
•Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
•Orients and mentors new staff members.
•Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
•Will float to PCU
•Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based obstetrical and newborn care

Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered-nursing program
Experience: Six months recent acute experience as a R.N.
License/Certifications:
Must have valid and current R.N. license from the State of Nebraska,BLS, ACLS and any other certifications
Successfully completed ACLS Certification within six months of hire and maintains current certification.
Maintains licensure and appropriate certification(s)
