This position manages significant clinical event investigations, peer review, decision support, coordination of regulatory and accreditation compliance and surveys (JCAHO, DHS, CMS, HSAG), patient safety process improvement, infection control and all other required quality related activities.

Identifies and investigates potential compensable events and provides litigation management. All work processed by the incumbent is considered confidential and protected from discovery, pursuant to applicable state law. Essential Functions * Analyzes incidents, sentinel events, and risk outcomes with administrators, physicians, clinical leaders, and staff to identify improvement opportunities utilizing quantitative techniques and knowledge of health care operations and systems thinking. Obtains and uses literature, best practice, and benchmark data whenever possible.

  • Manages significant clinical event and root cause analysis. Identifies sources of error and causes of variation. Develops and implements systems and processes to facilitate effective clinical practice and error reduction. * Assists in development, implementation, and migration of best practices for safe clinical practice and outcomes at the system or facility.
Coordinates activities to assure compliance with federal and state regulatory programs and accreditation requirements, as well as established organizational policies and procedures. * Investigates and reports potential compensable events and other reportable events to regulatory agencies. Manages legal defense issues including claim activity and investigations, settlements and litigation activities and maintains compliance with regulatory standards to protect the financial resources of the facility. * Serves as a content expert for designing and providing formal and informal training for physicians, clinical leaders, staff, and other constituencies related to healthcare quality, risk and patient safety.

Provides advice and counsel for leadership at all levels of the organization. * Organizes, plans and directs facility risk management activities. This includes establishing methods to avoid, reduce, or minimize risks, reviewing all risk management data, reviewing policies and procedures from a risk perspective, and preparing reports of risk activity. * Ensures state of the art data systems and accurate and reliable data acquisition including analysis and interâ€"rater reliability of data to support clinical and administrative decisionâ€"making.

  • Develops and oversees the department budget in conjunction with corporate goals and objectives. This position is accountable for meeting annual budgetary goals. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a strong knowledge of business, patient safety/quality management and/or risk management as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in a healthcare or business related field. Must have a proficiency level typically attained with 5 years experience in risk management or patient safety/quality management.
Depending on setting, may require at least 2 years management experience. Depending on setting, may require at least 2 years of Home Care experience. Must possess demonstrated flexibility in responding to the needs of multiple constituencies with a serviceâ€"oriented philosophy. Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate interdisciplinary teams.

Must also possess demonstrated skill in problem analysis, project management, conflict resolution and oral/written presentation. Requires ability to balance and manage multiple projects. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a healthcare or business related field. Certification in Quality and/or Risk Management.
