Location: Omaha Nebraska

DESCRIPTION : This employee provides direct client services in the home to breastfeeding mothers, infants and families. This employee is a case manager and primary nurse who use! s the nursing process in the development of the plan of care and manages resources to achieve the outcome of a positive breastfeeding experience for all referred families. Understands and commits to the agency mission. Performs all duties and responsibilities listed herein, as well as other duties that may be assigned. This position is part-time 24 hours a week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
FINANCIAL:
Responsible for meeting all documentation and productivity standards as identified by the agency.

QUALITY:
Promotes and uses the nursing process in working with clients and families. Develops, implements, evaluates and revises a plan of nursing care.

Complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations as appropriate for the position. Complies with all policies and procedures of the agency, including those specified in the employee handbook.

Evaluates effectiveness and outcomes of client care.
SERVICE:
Accepts responsibility in assessing ! breastfeeding mother’s needs, planning, coordinating care and referring clients to other services as needed.

Consults with and educates the client and family regarding the breastfeeding process, provides hands-on assistance with issues of latch on, positioning,; and non-medical treatment for issues of decreased milk supply and supplementation, sore nipples or nipple trauma, and other special needs situations.

Communicates appropriately verbally and in writing with clients, staff and other community resources.

Initiates appropriate preventive teaching in all areas of the parenting of a newborn, refers clients to appropriate community resources, and is an advocate for families.

GROWTH:
Promotes the growth of the VNA by representing the organization, its mission and its role in the community in a professional manner.

EDUCATION : Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing .

EXPERIENCE : Two or more years of nursing experience required. Experience in public health, obstetrics and/or pediatric nursing preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS : Adapts to changes in procedures and technology. Willingly learns new skills as required for the position

COMMUNICATION : Effective professional communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to read, analyze and interpret appropriate periodicals, regulations and correspondence pertaining to area of expertise. Ability to present information and respond to questions from employees, clients, managers and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively in both English and another specified language. This includes the ability to re! ad, write, speak and translate accurately. Medical Terminology in both ! languages is required.

REASONING SKILLS : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of standards effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to prioritize, check for errors and spot inaccuracies. Ability to predict the logical outcome of various choices and to make good decisions.

PHYSICAL REQTS : Requires full range of body motion, including unrestricted lifting, pushing and pulling capability. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Will frequently sit, stand, walk, drive, crouch, bend, kneel, climb stairs, lift and carry bulky/heavy items and use strength and dexterity to deliver safe and effective home health care on the basis of need and in accordance with agency policies and practices.

ENVIRONMENT : Frequent Exposure to extreme conditions (e.g., temperature, fumes, dust, pets, vermin, and other environmental factors in client! homes). Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. May work irregular hours and under stressful conditions.

DRIVING/INSURANCE : Must maintain current driver’s license and auto insurance coverage within the limits specified by VNA’s liability insurance carrier and stated in the VNA employee handbook. Must provide proof of license and insurance upon request and have access to reliable transportation. Must maintain an acceptable driving record as set forth in VNA’s policies and procedures.

LICENSURE: Active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or other nurse licensure compact state. IBCLC Certification. Certified in Basic Life Support.

COMPETENCY: Understands legal and ethical obligations for maintaining professional competency. Participates in professional development activities. Integrates standards into practice. Limits practice according to competence.
