New Orleans, Cultural Economy Policy & Communications VISTA [United States]

The City of New Orleans VISTA program is implemented by the Office of Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the Office of Cultural Economy. The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy (OCE) works with culture bearers, artists, musicians, designers, writers, and all other stakeholders in New Orleans’ cultural sector. OCE’s mission is to stimulate economic activity and growth through our local cultural communities by creating opportunities for arts and creative producers to thrive. The Office achieves this mission through leading initiatives, curating events, forging partnerships, and connecting to the community in all areas of the cultural economy. The VISTA project will collaborate with the Development & Communications Coordinator to create an annual report for the Office of Cultural Economy that outlines all OCE activities for 2023. This report will cover areas such as City cultural initiatives, grant funding, the Embrace the Culture program, and the work of the Film Office. The purpose of the annual report is to provide a full overview of OCE operations to City leadership, local arts and culture organizations, cultural businesses, potential investors, and other cultural stakeholders. Thus, highlighting the importance of the cultural sector in the overall economy and re-investment in local culture bearers, artists, musicians, nonprofits, and other cultural producers. The report will also be a tool for nonprofits and individuals to apply for funding or sponsorship. The VISTA member will work to develop and improve communications, engaging in outreach and distribution of materials to further support the initiatives of the office and communicate the latest news on cultural activities, events, and resources. The member will also collaborate with the office to strengthen strategic policy research and implementation towards the continued advancement of the New Orleans cultural economy.
